Winter scenes in New Mexico
Water color painting by Fran Larsen entitled "Camino de Farolitos" 1995. Note the luminarias by the gate and on the roof tops. I really love her work. She painted the frames too to be part of the whole piece.
Luminarias at an ancient American kiva. The luminaria tradition lights the way along highways, and streets and roads in New Mexico around Christmas. I remember them along the highway between Santa Fe and Taos the year I spent Christmas there. It's Spanish in origin and in this calendar photo, staged I think at Bandalier Natl Monument.
Sanctuario de Chimayo in northern New Mexico.

So beautiful: Chimayo!!!! I was all shocked when I heard that the town is full of drugs and drug dealers. I cannot believe it! But who am I to say that living down here in Mexico????

Yes, even when I lived in New Mex in 1999, Chimayo was famous for drug dealers etc. We even have drugs in Eugene--ha, ha, .......
ReplyDeleteHow will you spend Christmas this year?

I am housesitting for Christmas. Apart from the dog I am caring for, I have no plans. Perhaps I will get together with friends.
ReplyDeleteI found the clip-on tree candle holders that I was introduced to in Germany when I visited my cousin there. In the 80's I used to have a solstice gathering and lit candles in the clip on holders placed on a recently cut tree. It would be fun to do that again though not in my apartment. Did you use live candles in Germany when you were a kid?
I do not have those candle holders, but several people these days reminded me of them. I will try and get them for next year. It is a completely different feeling with alive candles. As I have kids around I have to be very careful. In germany every Christmas a few houses go up in flames.
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting by Fran Larsson!

ReplyDeleteHi Joelle,
ReplyDeleteI didn't take the photo. I bought the card in Santa Fe in the 90's and forgot to put down who took it before I sent the card out. So, I don't know. Perhaps send it out and say you don't know who took it.. I hope you get this!. I will email also.
